Personal Diary of Zed

About Me
This is a little weird to write because this is my personal diary, but I guess if someone were to find it or stumble across it, they should probably know who I am.

Hi! I’m Zed. If there’s one thing you should know about me it is that my life-long dream is to grow up and be a DRAGON! It’s all I’ve ever wanted. You see, being a Kobold means you are pretty small and the world likes to pick on you. Even worse, I’m a pretty small Kobold, so everyone is picking on little Zed.

I wrote in this journal backwards, with the newest/earliest entry first. So if you want to avoid secrets and spoilers, you'll have to visit the end of the diary to get to the beginning. Tricky aren't I?!

Week 4 - On the road

11/4/2021

We fought and we fought and we defended the Keep, you'd think a kobold could get a nap, but no. We heard a terrifying voice of this big dragon warrior. He was treading around looking to pick a fight. There was no way I was going to challenge him, he was like a million times bigger than me.

Mordoc stepped up, and while I didn't see the fight, it looked as if he got his butt beat. He came back in under the aid of a healer. He had a deep cut on his collarbone. We also got back our tiefling friend. I wonder where he went. At the conclusion of the fight, we were finally allowed to take a rest.

I had the wildest dream during the night. I was in the courtyard of my school growing up. It was recess. I don’t like recess. Recess is when the classmates play, “Let’s play hide and no seek with Zed’s stuff.” I found myself running and running for a while. They were chasing me then all of a sudden they came to a stop.  I kept running, but I soon found that the ground was no longer touching my feet. I WAS FLYING. I don’t know how and it took me a second to realize what was happening.

The excitement of my classmates turned quickly into horror as I found myself doing a hard 180 and started soaring over and scaring my classmates. I just kept reaching up as high as I could and then ZOOOM, crashed back down towards my classmates. Then all of a sudden, as I made one final pass… I woke up.

I joined the party in the morning and the Governor had a new quest for us. He wanted to know why these attacks were happening and who is responsible.  I sat and read my book of dragon facts while Pátrin talked to a bird. That was weird. As we got ready to go, I saw Battle Mom and ran over to give her a hug goodbye. She thanked us for our work and made us a small thank you breakfast. It was really bittersweet.

We were ready to go and this random gentleman named Niceman Wanderer came up to us and mentioned that someone was missing and if we would try to find them. Leosine Nowandlater was the name I heard. Did I mention I don't do names real good? But Leo is a monk, so it would be cool to find them!

We started to make our way through the woods, when we met a bunch of meanies. They looked like they were cooking dinner. We probably could have scooted by, but Korasche decided to kill a Kobold. WHY? They weren't doing anything. We got into a little tussle. I enjoyed punching a couple cultist in the face and knocking them out. I also got to ride a bear again! This is becoming a very comforting and efficient way to battle.

We got them all, except for one Kobold that managed to run off, hope that doesn't end up hurting us...

Week 3 - surprises

10/14/2021

It was a trap. The big mean cultists and some guards were there to TRY AND KILL US! Pátrin was still a bear and would you believe that the bears can climb? I couldn’t see through all the fur, but we were able to get right into the action. The Cultists and Guards did a wicked job and didn’t see me through the fur that they attacked the bear. I jumped out and started doing some punching and POW, knocked out 4 out of the 6 meanies! That’ll teach them not to mess with little Zed.

We headed back to the Keep with a couple prisoners and started asking them a bunch of questions. Well I didn’t ask questions because the cultists are big meanies. Mordoc is taking jabs at how little I am. I have to keep my eyes on him. I sat in the corner and read my book of dragon facts and tried to calm myself back down after such a big fight. They told us about a camp not too far away full of cultists and villagers as they try to plan for the Queen of Dragons. Led by Rashmere (sp?), Cultists keep telling us we’re too late, but I don’t believe them.

OUT OF NOWHERE, a blue dragon flew over and destroyed a guard. I was fascinated and terrified at the same time. It kept flying around and the party didn’t know what to do. I surely wasn’t going to fight it. I watched the blue dragon blast a guard into dust!  We were all shaking  in the Governor’s shelter when all of a sudden I felt a grip around the back of my neck. The Governor picked me up and said, “You, little one, go try and talk to the dragon, you look like one of them.”

FIRST OF ALL, I’m a Kobold!!! SECOND, how am I going to talk to something so big and powerful. It’s not like I took tiny little steps and kept shouting, “Mr. Dragon. Oh, Mr. Dragon.” Oh wait, that’s exactly what happened! I learned that his name is Lennithon, but I’m going to call him Lenny. Lenny flew down and asked what I wanted. Shaking uncontrollably, I started to mutter that I wanted him to leave this place alone. Surely, Lenny had better things to do. I even shared a Dragon fact with Lenny. Lenny seemed kind of amused by it and complimented me on being one of the strangest little ones he’s ever met.

Anyways, I was able to ask Lenny what would it take for him to go away and he said that if we would agree to kill this Furlong Mothbat, whatever that is, Lenny would just fly around and pretend to attack the Keep. I agreed and just as I was about to go get the party, we heard a big crash and all of a sudden a bunch of bullies showed up from the northside of the Keep and they looked mean. Pátrin shapeshifted into a Wolf again. We made quick work of the group. It felt pretty good.

Just when we thought it was over, we heard a noise come from the front of the Keep and of course of all things, it was more Cultists, Guards, and Kobolds! Even though I was latched onto my noble wolf friend, I was so scared. I shouted up to Lenny to see if he’d be gracious enough to lend a quick claw, but alas, the deal was the deal.

We fought, and we fought. I took a couple good pokes from my Kobold brothers, but we were able to protect the Keep. Will there be rest soon? I’m scared and sore.

week 2 - finding my ground

10/7/2021

WOWOWOW! Almost too much happened. Our friends were unconscious and Battle Mom had to help drag our friends off to the keep and in doing so some random bullies scoop up the children. I’ll be honest, I was surprised I wasn’t scooped up at the same time. I hope they are okay….

We got to the keep, and immediately we noticed it was utter chaos. We were able to rest, and in doing so, I was able to learn a little more about being a monk and unlocked my Ki. Not sure what I’m going to be able to do, but yea, that happened.

We got rested and the guy in charge, gosh I’m so bad at names, needed us to save some villagers that were trapped in the chapel. I was so scared and wasn’t looking for it, but our party had other plans.

To get out, we had to travel down to the basement of the keep and escape through a secret tunnel. It was blocked by some crates and OH MY GOSH there were swarms of RATS once we moved the crates. It’s not everyday that the enemy is smaller than me, and it felt good to finally be the bigger Kobold. I took the opportunity and beat up a few rats. Kicking and punching them across the room was so cool! If only I had this kind of courage when facing someone bigger than me.

Once out, Pátrin had a really cool idea. Apparently he can shape himself into animals, like big, scary animals. He shaped into a Dire Wolf and for a second, I thought he was going to bite my head off, but he gave the nod like he wanted me to hop on and I’m not going to say no to a wolf, so I HOPPED ON AND RODE A WOLF!

We rode into battle and I punched some bullies while the WOLF ATE THE LEADER. We made quick work of the bullies and I swooped up to the chapel door and gave it a knock to let the villagers know that they were safe, but they didn’t answer me. Guess they thought I was a bad guy. Our cleric, Mordoc, had to step in and be the hero. Maybe one day I’ll be the hero.

We got the villagers from the chapel back to the keep. With much excitement, the leader looked at us and had a new mission. A NEW MISSION? How many of these are we gonna get? I just came here to see dragons and learn from them. These missions, like the dragons, are terrifying.

Anyways, the local mill was getting destroyed and we needed to race the army there to try and save it. We got there and scared off some bullies. Pátrin turned into a bear and ran into battle, but I knew exactly what I needed. I ran and caught up and jumped up to ride the bear and in doing so, swiftly kicked a bad guy. They got scared and ran away, and as we checked the mill, we could hear voices. Pátrin, still in bear form, kicked down the door and I went to check to see where the voices came from in the mill. I took a couple steps and as Pátrin followed me in, we heard the sound of spears being thrown at us from above.

WAS THIS A TRAP?!?!?!

Week 1 - the journey begins

9/30/2021

Oh geez, what a wild adventure I’ve started. Met these other travelers as we seemed to be heading to this place called Greenest and OH MY GOODNESS I SAW MY FIRST DRAGON! It was destroying the city, which was absolutely terrifying, but it looked so beautiful. It was a blue dragon! As we got into town, this random group of adventurers (I’m sure will figure out a cool name for ourselves eventually. Maybe it will be dragon themed. I’d like that.) came across these townsfolk and they were getting attacked by fellow Kobolds.

I thought that was odd, because I couldn’t imagine attacking a random group of humans, and I tried real hard to get them to go away. I yelled, “Hey you bullies, leave them alone. GO AWAY!”

It didn’t work. They wouldn’t listen to little old me.

I saw some of my new friends take a beating from my Kobold brothers, because you know we’re all one family, so I had to muster up some courage and POW! I punched a couple in the face. I just pretended they were the bullies that picked on me when I was younger.

We ended up saving the townsfolk, I can’t remember the leader's name, but we all started calling her Battle Mom. Her and her children were so scared, it got me scared and I hid with the children as we tried to make our way to the keep, which is the safest place in town.

On our way we ran into these terrible looking cultists who were doing their best dragon impression and what the heck, more Kobolds. I wasn’t a fan of the cultists and really got brave for a second and punched a couple of them out. Our party took a beating. Our healers are down, but alive and even I got hit by a slingshot from a bully.

I wonder if we’ll make it to the keep, or if I need to run away.
