Twitter is 140 characters of awesome.
From connecting to celebrities, to having a constant stream of cute animal pictures, there is a lot of ways to use your account.
We know it is a site to communicate with one another, but how many know that you can essentially chat with not only another person, but a whole community of people?
The hashtag is a link enabled label or a way of categorizing your tweet for you and others to filter. Television shows, movies, special events all take advantage of the hashtag so that people interested can share their thoughts about the particular hashtag. Further, you can click on that hashtag and find out what others have said. You then can react and respond.
There are groups of people that take it a step further and say, "Let's all meet at (time) on (day) and use (hashtag) to talk to each other!" No longer are you on a call and respond schedule, but rather, creating essentially a chatroom revolved around the hashtag.
Sounds crazy complicated but part II of this topic will cover how you can do it with ease. For those in higher education, there is a whole twitter directory for you so you can find your interests and find out when people are talking about them.
